Whether you want a beautiful car from the modern era or one built decades ago, the Italians got you covered. 10 Ferrari 250 GTO
Ferrari has been on top of the sports car game for almost a century now. Of all the Ferrari models ever built, the 250 GTO is arguably the most iconic. Introduced in the ’60s, the 250 GTO had everything one could need in a supercar.
For one, it was a thing of beauty with flowing curves that everyone loves to date. It was also a powerhouse, which is why it dominated the 24 Hours of Le Mans for much of the ’60s. With just a few units made, it’s no surprise that the 250 GTO can cost $50 million.
9 Lamborghini Miura
We all love Lamborghini’s wedge-shaped supercars like the Aventador, Murcielago, Gallardo, and, of course, the Countach. However, before the Countach debuted and permanently changed Lamborghini’s design language, the Miura was Lamborghini’s pride and joy.
Lamborghini wanted the Miura to have a design that looked great and aided its aerodynamics, which is why they hired the renowned Marcello Gandini to pen it. In true Gandini fashion, the Miura turned out to be a work of art. It was also among the fastest cars of the ’60s, thanks to a mighty V12 engine.
8 Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale
Alfa Romeo has never been able to compete with Ferrari and Lamborghini when it comes to building fast cars. However, when it comes to looks, Alfa Romeo can compete with any of the two Italian giants and win.
Of all the beautiful Alfa Romeo cars ever built, the Tipo 33 Stradale is our favorite. We love everything about the 33 Stradale’s design, from its curvaceous body to its low-slung front end with huge headlights, prominent wheel arches, and butterfly doors. With only 18 examples built, the 33 Stradale is one of the rarest Italian cars.
7 De Tomaso Pantera
Argentinian racing driver and entrepreneur Alejandro de Tomaso always had a dream of building some of the best sports cars in the world. So in the late ’50s, de Tomaso established a car company in his name to do just that.
The best car built by the company is the De Tomaso Pantera – a gorgeous wedge-shaped sports car designed by Ghia. De Tomaso thought it was a good idea to give the Pantera some American DNA, so they equipped it with a Ford-sourced V8 with 330 hp on tap.
6 Maserati A6 GCS
The A6 GCS is more than six decades old, but it’s still considered to be the most beautiful Maserati ever made. Designed by Pininfarina, this awesome car had a sleek, muscular look featuring a long hood, large wheels, double side exhausts, and a large grille with a prominent Maserati trident.
If the legendary Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing didn’t exist, the A6 GCS would have been the most beautiful ’50s car. The only thing we don’t like about the A6 GCS is its rarity. With only 2 examples surviving, the chances of ever seeing one are almost non-existent.
5 ISO Grifo
The Grifo is a limited-production grand tourer produced by ISO from 1965 to 1974. When developing the Grifo, ISO wanted it to be able to compete with grand touring options from the likes of Ferrari and Maserati.
To achieve this, ISO started by hiring the renowned Giorgetto Giugiaro to work on the design. After Giugiaro came up with a stunning design, ISO’s next goal was to give it as much power as possible. The Grifo was equipped with various Chevrolet-sourced V8 engines producing up to 435 hp, giving it great performance.
4 Lancia Stratos HF Stradale
Not many gearheads remember Lancia, but the Italian marque was among the most successful manufacturers of the 20th century. Lancia was particularly successful in motorsports, as it built one of the greatest rally cars ever – the Stratos.
The Stratos revolutionized how rally cars were developed and dominated the rallying scene in the ’70s as a result. Like other Marcello Gandini designs of the ’70s, the Stratos was a wedge-shaped masterpiece.
3 Ferrari 330 P4
Unless you’re familiar with Ferrari’s racing history, there’s a good chance that you’ve never heard of the 330 P4. The 330 P4 is an important car for Ferrari, as it got the Italian marque some revenge after Ford’s famous Le-Mans-winning streak in the late ’60s.
The 330 P4 was designed by Pierre Drogo and was praised for its gorgeous looks. Only one 330 P4 survives today, and every billionaire gearhead wishes it was in their collection.
2 Bizzarrini 5300 GT Strada
Bizzarrini hasn’t built a new car in decades, but we’ll always remember the marque for building the awe-inspiring 5300 GT Strada. The 5300 Strada was conceived by Giotto Bizzarrini – a renowned engineer who had left Ferrari to build a company from scratch.
Although the 5300 Strada was built by an Inexperienced automaker, it was hard to tell as it looked better than almost everything on the road. It was also superb to drive, thanks to a Chevrolet-sourced V8 blurting out 365 hp.
1 Maserati Ghibli Spyder
The Ghibli name has been used on three different Maserati models over the years. This article focuses on the original Ghibli (AM115) – an awe-inspiring two-door grand tourer introduced in the late ’60s.
We love every bit of the Ghibli’s design, particularly the convertible version that debuted two years after the coupe’s introduction. The Ghibli Spider looked better than the coupe and was just as powerful, thanks to a 4.7-liter V8 pumping out 306 hp.
